Family reunification in Italy: income requirement 2026
According to INPS circular no. 153 of 19 December 2025 and art. 29 of the Consolidated Immigration Act (checked on 30 October 2026), in 2026 family reunification requires an income of at least €10,651.68 a year with 1 family member, plus €3,550.56 for each additional family member. It is the 2026 social allowance (€7,101.12 a year) increased by half for each family member.
Table 2026: minimum income by number of family members
In the first column count only the family members you want to bring to Italy. The second column includes you: for example «4 people» are you, your wife and 2 children, so 3 family members to bring.
| Family members to bring | People in the family, with you | Minimum income per year | Per month, over 12 | Per month, over 13 |
|---|---|---|---|---|
| 1 family member | 2 people | €10,651.68 | €887.64 | €819.36 |
| 2 family members | 3 people | €14,202.24 | €1,183.52 | €1,092.48 |
| 3 family members | 4 people | €17,752.80 | €1,479.40 | €1,365.60 |
| 4 family members | 5 people | €21,303.36 | €1,775.28 | €1,638.72 |
| 5 family members | 6 people | €24,853.92 | €2,071.16 | €1,911.84 |
| 2 or more children under 14 | – | €14,202.24 | €1,183.52 | €1,092.48 |
The law speaks of yearly income: the «per month» columns only help you compare with your salary. Example: wife and 2 children = 3 family members: €7,101.12 + 3 × €3,550.56 = €17,752.80 a year.
The rules
Two or more children under 14
The law adds: for the reunification of two or more children under 14 an income of at least double the yearly social allowance is required «in any case»: €14,202.24 in 2026. If other family members come with the children, or there are 3 or more children, the Sportello unico decides how the two rules combine.
What counts as income
The law asks for a yearly income «from lawful sources» and adds the income of family members who already live with you. Which documents prove it, and for which year, is decided by the Sportello unico of your Prefecture.
Who you can bring
According to the Ministry of the Interior you can apply if you live legally in Italy with a residence permit valid for at least 1 year, for: your spouse (adult, not legally separated); unmarried minor children, with the other parent's consent; adult dependent children who are totally disabled; dependent parents, if they have no other children in the country of origin, or parents over 65 whose other children cannot support them for serious health reasons.
Where to apply
The application for the nulla osta (clearance) is sent online to the Sportello unico per l'immigrazione of the Prefecture where you live, with documents on income and housing, on the Ministry of the Interior's Portale Servizi with SPID or CIE. By law the nulla osta must be issued within 150 days of the application. You also need suitable housing, checked by the municipality.
