Prepare for the speaking test
The speaking test is the part that worries many people. It helps to talk often with a native-speaker teacher, even online. On italki you choose an Italian teacher, take one-to-one lessons and pay per lesson.

Frequently asked questions
Which Italian exam do I need for citizenship?
You need an Italian language certificate at level B1 or higher from a recognised body. The 4 main bodies, with exam centres all over Italy, are CILS (University for Foreigners of Siena), CELI (University for Foreigners of Perugia), PLIDA (Società Dante Alighieri) and CERT.IT (Roma Tre University). The Ministry of the Interior's Vademecum also lists the University for Foreigners «Dante Alighieri» of Reggio Calabria. Who is exempt.
Can I take the B1 citizenship exam online?
No. The exam is taken in person at an exam centre, with an identity document. Official sources.
How much does the B1 exam cost?
CILS B1 Cittadinanza: €100, the same fee everywhere. CERT.IT B1: €80 at Roma Tre. CELI and PLIDA: each centre sets the price (for example €90 for the CELI 2 i cittadinanza at the University of Milan). All prices, with sources.
Do I need the B1 exam if I have a carta di soggiorno?
According to the law and the Ministry of the Interior, holders of the EU long-term residence permit (the carta di soggiorno) do not have to present the B1 certificate. The Prefecture decides. Exemptions, with sources.
